Albert P. Clark collection, 1903-2008.

This collection contains materials accumulated by Albert P. Clark during his thirty-eight years as an officer in the Air Force and then during his thirty-four years of retirement as an active member of the Colorado Springs, Colorado community. Of particular importance to the collection are those items acquired by Clark while a prisoner of war (POW) during World War II which he was able to eventually send back to the United States. Included are photographs taken with hidden cameras during Clark's three years as a POW in both Stalag Luft III and Stammlager VIIA, handwritten diaries, memoirs from Clark and his fellow POWs ("Kriegie's"), original POW artwork, memorabilia, and a collection of camp newspapers. In addition to materials from World War II through 1970 which follow General Clark through key staff assignments and promotions, another large area of the collection includes the tenure of General Clark as Superintendent of the Air Force Academy and his long arms collection. The last portion of the collection deals with Clark's retirement activities and includes information about The Friends of the Air Force Academy Library and the Falcon Foundation and items from forty years of gatherings among former ex-prisoners of war.
