Born in Scituate, Mass., Dec.29,1782, son of Benjamin and Abigail Woodworth; a carpenter by trade; came to Detroit, 1806. In 1806 built a house on northwest corner of Randolph and Woodbridge, later the Steamboat Hotel. He built the Detroit markethouse, court house and first bank; was an organizer of the Protestant Society in 1821; held several civic offices and ran a ferry.
