Born in Scituate, Mass., Dec.29,1782, son of Benjamin and Abigail Woodworth; a carpenter by trade; came to Detroit, 1806. In 1806 built a house on northwest corner of Randolph and Woodbridge, later the Steamboat Hotel. He built the Detroit markethouse, court house and first bank; was an organizer of the Protestant Society in 1821; held several civic offices and ran a ferry. On July 26, 1807, he married Rachel Dicks of Grosse Ile, and they had two sons and two daughters. Sometime after 1846 he removed to St. Clair, where he died, Nov.10, 1874. (from Burton.
