The images are predominately of Civil War Confederate soldiers active in Georgian regiments; however there are also images of Union soldiers, slaves and ex-slaves, Civil War forts and battle sites, and soldier wives. All photographs are housed in plastic sleeves and the majority have biographical information included in the sleeve. Box 1 contains the correspondence, receipts and accounts of transactions between Bailey and Fraser and the sources of original photographs used in Portraits of Conflict. Sources include the National Archives, Library of Congress, historical societies and libraries across the United States, universities, private individuals and museums. There is also a very limited number of etchings and photocopies of Civil War letters and diaries. An Excel table has been created listing the name, origin, rank, regiment and source of each picture when available.
