Ann J. Bailey and Walter J. Fraser collaborated together on Portraits of Conflict: A Photographic History of Georgia in the Civil War (University of Arkansas, 2006). Anne J. Bailey received her PhD from Texas Christian University in 1987 and is a professor of history at Georgia College and State University. She is the 2005 recipient of the Grady McWhiney Award of Merit presented by the Civil War Round Table of Dallas and is the author or editor of eight books on the Civil War, including the Chessboard of War: Sherman and Hood in the Autumn Campaigns of 1864, which won the Richard Barksdale Harwell Award by the Civil War Round Table of Atlanta for the best book on the Civil War published in 2000. Chessboard was also a selection of The History Book Club. Bailey was awarded the Excellence in Research and Publication Award at Georgia College and State University in 2001 and 2006-2007. Bailey also edited the Georgia Historical Quarterly and the Society of Civil War Historians Newsletter. Walter J. Fraser, Jr. is the author of Charleston! Charleston! : the history of a southern city (1989) Savannah in the Old South (2003), and Lowcountry hurricanes : three centuries of storms at sea and ashore (2006). He is a Professor Emeritus of Georgia Southern University's Department of History.
