Henry Dearborn letter to Tennessee governor Archibald Roane [manuscript], 1802 July 9.

Dearborn discusses the building of a road from the East to Kentucky and Tennessee, noting that President Jefferson would like to see one from Tennessee to the "boatable waters of Georgia." He asks if the state would partially fund the road and notes that a great national road should take the shortest route possible and not be extended to accomodate the desires of a single county.
