Papers of Joseph L. Vaughan [manuscript], 1931-1999.

The collection contans 28 journals documenting his academic and personal life from 1931 to 1999. With these are an art journal containing his sketches and an address book. The collection also contains a group of miscellaneous items pertaining to his life and work including articles and photographs about his art; correspondence concerning awards; biographical information; correspondence with his wife Ann Doner Vaughan; two poems; family photographs; historical information on the Humanitites Dept. of the School of Engineering; and brochures and an article on the Institute of Textile Technology. The collection also contains newsclippings and articles about Vaughan including several obituaries; slides of University of Virginia scenes; photographs of Vaughan, his colleagues and the grounds of the University; and a speech "Thomas Jefferson's answer to old age." Ot interest is a Rotunda Rosette given to Vaughan at the time of the renovation and a bracelet made of tokens from a coal miners' company store. The collection also includes a disk containing the Vaughan Family tree; a videocassette of an A&E Biography program "Thomas Jefferson Philosopher of Freedom"; a videocassette "Memories of Mr. Jefferson's University"; and an audio cassette of Vaughan's memorial service, 1/23/99.
