A contemporary copy of a letter, 1813 March 13, José Servando de Mier Noriega y Guerra to Miguel Ramos Arizpe deplores the consequences of the non observance of the armistice between the Spanish under Juan Domingo Monteverde and the insurgents, and mentioning the spread of the insurgency under a "certain Bolívar." A copied extract of a letter "from an American Deputy of the Cortes of Spain," 1813 April 16, describes the Cortes' disapproval of Monteverde's lenient treatment of prisoners. Letters, 1813 April 12 and 22, May 19, October 13, December 2 and 5, and n.d., William Walton to the Duke of Gloucester and to Nicholas Vansittart, describe the harsh conditions of prisoners of war and urge the English to take action in Spanish America before the insurgents seek aid from the United States and France. Letter, 1813 October 18, December 2, Nicholas Van Sittart to the Duke of Gloucester, despairs of British interference and points out the Spanish treatment of Wellington.
