Papers, 1856-64, relate to Heth's service with the U.S. Infantry, the C.S.A. Army of the Kanawha, and the Army of Norther Virginia. Included are letters, 1856-62, to Samuel Cooper, Adj. Gen. and other administrative officers; official army records of Heth's service in both the U.S. & C.S.A. armies; A system of target practice, by Heth, 1858, incl. a covering letter from John Buchanan Floyd; also, requisition orders and accounts of Heth. Papers, 1885-89, concern Heth's work as Special Indian Agent. There are his commissions, but also letters giving his views on Indian affairs [7 items].
