The collection contains an order of 1790 drawn by Robert Morris, payable to Charles Carroll. In a 1794 September 8 letter, Patrick Henry writes to his daughter, Mrs. Aylett conveying news of family, floods, and tobacco losses. An 1827 November 17 letter from Mathew Carey to James Madison refers to Carey's observations on the current situation of the country. Two letters, 1863 March 1 and 1864 November 1, from General J. E. B. Stuart, probably both to the Richmond, Va., publishers West & Johnston praises their publications and orders books. A 1869 September 29 letter from Asa Rogers to Major Charles B. Bull inquires if Bull would like to be judge of the Loudoun Court. An 1877 March 29 letter from John E. Kenna to Benjamin Perley Poore encloses a copy of a statistical sketch.
