Albemarle County, Va., court papers [manuscript], 1780-1820.

The papers contain appointments, 1780 November 22, of justices of the peace and commissioneers of oyer and terminer for the trial of slaves for Albemarle County, Va., signed by Thomas Jefferson. The collection also contains appointments of justices of the peace for Albemarle county, 1791, 1816, and 1820,signed by Virginia governors Beverley Randolph, Wilson Cary Nicholas, and Thomas Mann Randolph. The collection also contains a statement 1791 November 26, signed by Beverley Randolph, certifying Richard Marshall as eligble for disability pension; two letters, 1794-1797, from James Wood, regarding justices of the peace for Albemarle County; and a list, 1794-1798, of tavern rates. There are also miscellaneous papers, 1806-1816, from Albemarle County, Va., some kept by Alexander Garrett, regarding justices of the peace; a county survey, 1816; a medical license fee, 1814; letters, 1806 and 1811, from Thomas Fletcher and Dabney Carr resigning their posts as Commonwealth's Attorney for Albemarle County, Va., a recommendation that the number of court members be increased, 1810; a summons to court, 1812; a letter, 6 May 1814, from Alexander Garrett, Charlottesville, Va., to William Munford, acknowledging a letter; a letter regarding additional court appointments; and copies, 1815 of various court orders.
