Memoirs of Confederate surgeon Meade [manuscript], 1865 March 21-April.

The memoirs describe the siege of Petersburg, the capture of Richmond, the battle of Five Forks and the final retreat to Appomattox. The battle of Gettysburg is also mentioned. The writer discusses fellow physicians, hardships endured during the last campaign especially by the wounded, tells several anecdotes about himself and his horse "Satan," and writes about his trip home and the immediate aftermath of the war.
