Papers of Thomas Carlyle [manuscript], 1841-1873.

Carlyle writes to his wife about one of her letters and his itinerary; to his sister regarding family news and work on "Frederick the Great"; to Leigh Hunt inviting him to tea with Ben Nelson and possibly John Stuart Mill; and to an unidentified correspondent offering literary advice and encouragement. There is also a letter, 1880, from William Edward Hartpole Lecky to James Russell Lowell concerning an anecdote regarding Carlyle and mentioning Emerson. Also in the collection is an etching, no date, of Carlyle in his garden at Chelsea.
