Papers of Hawthorne Daniel [manuscript], 1945-1963.

The papers include manuscripts of "The ordeal of the captive nations," 1957, and "Magellan," 1963; four issues of "Blue Book," 1949, containing a serialization of "Big gun fleet," by Jesse B. Oldendorf as told to Daniel; and notes concerning the 1956 voyage of the merchant marine ship S.S. Wolna Polska, magazine articles, and an incomplete manuscript by Jan Cwiklinski and Daniel regarding the ship, the first chartered by the Polish-American Pulaski Transport Line to employ exiled Polish seamen. The papers also contain a speech, 1957, by Leo Cherne regarding the Hungarian revolt; a press release, 1957, by the Secretary General of the Assembly of Captive European Nations; and photographs of Jesse B. Oldendorf, Hawthorne Daniel and Nelle M. Ryan Daniel.
