Andrew Hynes papers, 1814-1815.

This collection consists of correspondence of Andrew Hynes while serving with Tennessee troops in the Battle of New Orleans campaign. The correspondence from Nashville mentions business, political and military affairs. Correspondents represented in the collection include Willie Blount, Governor of Tennessee; Thomas Fletcher; and his own brother, William Hynes. Also included are French and English printed texts of orders of General Andrew Jackson, broadsides, a roster of officers of the Tennessee army, financial records, and a hand-drawn map of the battlefield of the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812.

Andrew Hynes, a soldier and planter, was born Sept. 20,1788 in Bardstown, Ky. He moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1810 where he joined the state militia, and later served as aide-de-camp to General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans.
