Andrew Hynes, a soldier and planter, was born Sept. 20,1788 in Bardstown, Ky. He moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1810 where he joined the state militia, and later served as aide-de-camp to General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. He married Ann Erwin of Home Place Plantation, Iberville Parish, La. on March 2, 1817. Lavinia, one of their seven children, married Edward J. Gay, who was to become a congressman from Louisiana. While maintaining a home in Nashville, Hynes resided at Home Place with his wife and her parents, assisting in the management of the plantation. Andrew Hynes died at Home Place Jan. 21, 1849.

Andrew Hynes was born Dec. 22, 1786, in Bardstown, Ky. His father, Andrew Hynes, was one for the founders of Louisville, Ky. The younger Andrew Hynes moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1810 where he joined the state militia, and later served under General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. On April 5, 1814, Major Andrew Hynes was appointed Adjutant General of the state militia, and promoted ot Colonel. After the war, he became a merchant in Nashville. He married Ann Erwin of Home Place Plantation, Iberville Parish, La., on March 2, 1817. Lavinia, one of their seven children, married Edward J. Gay, who was to become a congressman from Louisiana. While maintaining a home in Nashville, Hynes resided at Home Place with his wife and her parents, assisting in the management of the plantation. Andrew Hynes died at Home Place Jan. 21, 1849.
