This collection includes case registration books (1919-1941), a secretary's book (1917-1930), constitutions and articles of incorporation, broadsides, materials related to charitable Christmas activities, case files and case workers' notebooks, financial records, reports, minutes, publicity materials and correspondence. The correspondence includes letters from the Iowa City Community Chest, the Johnson County Relief Dept., the Iowa Dept. of Social Welfare, the State Psychopathic Hospital, the Johnson County Public Health Association, and the Family Welfare Association of America.

The Social Service League of Iowa City was established to be a clearinghouse for Iowa City and Johnson County social agencies, to maintain a confidential registry of clients, to encourage interest in social movements and to promote efficiency in the provision of social services.
