Editor, politician, and poet, born in Carlingford, County Louth, Ireland, 13 Apr. 1825. Lived in New York, Boston, and Buffalo during the early 1850s; moved to Montreal in 1857. He was assassinated in Ottawa, 7 Apr. 1868. He was a good friend of James A. Sadlier, manager of the Montreal branch of D. & J. Sadlier publishers, and Sadlier's wife, author Mary Ann Madden Sadlier. Sir Charles Tupper was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, 2 July 1821. He was educated at Horton Academy in Wolfville and graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1843 as an M.D. He returned to Canada shortly thereafter and began practicing in Amherst.
