Six speeches concerning the work of the Society for the Promotion of Collegiate and Theological Education at the West and the need to finance western colleges. The speeches concern Western Reserve College, Marietta College, Illinois College, Monticello Female Seminary, Wabash College, Lane Theological Seminary, the College of California, and the College of St. Paul. The speech, dated 18 Jan. 1863, has commentary on the Civil War and the Union support from the western states.
