The printer's copy and page proofs of Kittredge's biographical sketch for the edition of Child's ballads that Kittredge edited (Boston, 1904); with obituaries of Child in English, Italian, and German; a printed copy of Charles Eliot Norton's biographical sketch of Child, inscribed by the author; a poem dedicated to Child in Latin; and other materials gathered by Kittredge while writing the biography. The photograph is of Child and his wife, Elizabeth, on their porch with their dog.

The materials in this bound volume were generated due to a manuscript called the "Harris manuscript." The Harris manuscript was written down by the sisters Amelia Harris (1815-1891) and Jane Harris (1823-1897).
