Book of autograph receipts recording arrival and release of bodies to a mausoleum holding vault at Green Mount Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland. Many receipts signed by various undertakers including: Jacob Weaver, Jenkins & Son, and Harvey & Marr. Stub No. 560 records receipt of body of John Wilks (sic) Booth/ [received] Feb. 18th 1869/ 27 years/ paid $8.00/ Taken out June 20th 1869. Also includes: photostat copy of stub book page recording receipt of Booth body; and clipping, "Booth's letter to Grant," by Herman Henry Kohlsaat, cut from the Saturday Evening Post, February 9, 1924, p. 20. Clipping relates to actor Edwin Booth's many letters to government officials concerning his desire to have the remains of his brother, John Wilkes Booth, released from federal custody.

John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of President Abraham Lincoln, was shot and killed on April 26, 1865. Booth's body was held at various locations by the U.S. government until a release was signed by President Andrew Johnson. The body was removed from its temporary grave in the yard of the Old Penitentiary on the Washington Arsenal grounds on February 18th, 1869. Wilkes' body was buried in an unmarked grave in the Booth family plot in Green Mount Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland on June 26, 1869. ...
