Centre County Commissioners letter to J. Buffington, 1858 April 29.

The Centre County Commissioners inform J. Buffington that they have reduced the assessment of the lands in Rush Township belonging to George D. Morgan, and Henry Cromond owes $1.00 per acre for his land. Signed by Henry Keller, Jacob Pottsgrave, and Jacob W. Ehrhard, and attested by Theo. Muffly, clerk. Docketed on verso: Commis/Exoneration/Philipsburg land.

Adam Hess worked as the tax assessor for Harris Township, Centre County, Pa. in 1875. The Centre County Commissioners directed him to list all taxable persons in Harris Township as owners of real property, tenants, or single men. The tax assessor earned $2 an hour while the tax collector received a commission on all the taxes he collected.
