Arthur P. Loomis papers, 1840-1918

Correspondence relating to Loomis' activities in the Republican Party and as private secretary to John T. Rich and Fred M. Warner, Governors of Michigan. Subjects represented include the automobile industry, William Jennings Bryan, farm prices, Ionia. County Republican Committee (1900), Perry Monument Committee, Hazen S. Pingree, road construction, and State elections (1908 and 1910). The letter books deal with the current public and political issues of their day: free silver, William J. Bryant, farm prices, gubernatorial campaign of Hazen S. Pingree, Perry Monument Committee, road construction, state elections of 1908 and 1910, growth of auto industry and more. Another letter book records Ionia County Republican Committee activities for 1900.

Arthur Loomis was a lifelong resident of Ionia County, Michigan and long active in Republican Party politics. He served as private secretary of Governor John T. Rich, 1893-1896. From 1904-1910, Loomis was secretary to Governor Fred M. Warner. From its inception in 1910 until his death in 1930, Loomis was an enthusiastic member of the Perry Monument Centennial Committee.
