The collection includes correspondence related to Van der Zee's political interests, Rhodes scholarship and Iowa code indexing project; a scrapbook, ephemera and printed materials from his Rhodes scholarlship years; correspondence, clippings and writings related to Iowa City civic affairs particularly regarding the drive for public ownership of the power and light company; and many writings and lectures, largely devoted to various legal topics and world politics.

Professor of political science, State University of Iowa. Jacob Van der Zee was born in the Netherlands. He graduated from the State University of Iowa in 1905. From 1905-1908 he was a Rhodes scholar from Iowa at Oxford. He received his law degree from Harvard in 1911. In 1927 he began his tenure at the State University of Iowa as a professor of international law and political science.
