Professor of political science, State University of Iowa.

Jacob Van der Zee was born in the Netherlands. He graduated from the State University of Iowa in 1905. From 1905-1908 he was a Rhodes scholar from Iowa at Oxford. He received his law degree from Harvard in 1911. In 1927 he began his tenure at the State University of Iowa as a professor of international law and political science. In addition to lecture materials Van der Zee wrote many articles for the Iowa Journal of History, radio speeches, and an index to the Iowa code. He was active in Iowa City civic affairs, serving as an alderman and chairman of the Ordinance and Sewers Committee of the city council and leading the drive for municipal ownership of power and light utilities.
