Chester Linscheid papers, 1938- 1978.

The Chester Linscheid papers contain the personal papers of a former New Mexico State University librarian. Most collection items are from the 1940s through the mid 1960s, except for some newsletters and a few professional conference programs from the 1930's, the collection contains little to document Linscheid's early career. The collection reveals Linscheid's profession through his involvement in professional activities segment, in particular they document his involvement with the American Library Association (ALA). In addition to minutes of the executive board, there are agendas, reports submitted to the board and general conference information concerning the council meetings Linscheid attended. Well documneted is Linscheid's involvement in the ALA movement for librarian certification in the early fifties. Additionally, there is also information on library schools, papers, reports, drafts for talks, newsletter and a segment of correspondence from Linscheid's tenure on the ALA New Mexico State Membership Committee. The papers also reflect Linscheid's personal pastimes such as travel, collecting letterheads and postcards, and attending cultural events. The postcard collection contains over 2000 cards arranged by state. Cards cover a long time span and depict the Southwest especially well. Travel materials consist of road maps, tour books, guides and brochures. Attending cultural events was also a favorite pastime of the Linscheids. Programs from such events constitutes a large part of this collection. Information on Linscheid's tenure as director of the New Mexico State University Library is found in the Library records in the Hobson-Huntsinger University Archives.
