Stuart Keate was born in Vancouver, graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1935 and went into journalism, serving as a sports writer for the Vancouver Province. From 1942-1945 he was an information officer in the north Atlantic and Pacific theatres. Peter Stursberg was born in August 1913 in China. He began his career as a journalist in Victoria, and was later a correspondent during World War II and a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Ottawa.
