Lloyd Thurston was a lifelong Osceola, Iowa resident. He earned a law degree from the State University of Iowa (1902). He served as Clarke County attorney (1906-1910), state senator (1920-1924), and Iowa representative in the U.S. House of Representatives (1926-1940). He volunteered for military service during the Spanish-American war (51st Iowa Volunteer Regiment), the Philippine Insurrection, and World War I.
