Papers, 1936-1946.

Papers, 1936-1946, consisting of two account books recording his sales of pianos for Steinway & Sons, and an undated volume of genealogical notes on the Tapp family. The account books give the customer's name, address, and the price of the piano, sometimes adding notes on professional discounts, special requests, commissions paid to people who introduced the customer, follow up, or complaints. Most of the sales were to customers in the New York metropolitan area, including Wanda Landowska, but some were to customers elsewhere in the United States and abroad, including a number of shipments to Iceland. A letter from Tapp dated 1946, resigning from Steinway for health reasons and asking the company for financial help in his retirement, is laid in at the beginning of the second volume. The volume of genealogical notes gives a family tree of the Tapp family, and notes on their history in England (they originated in Mells, Somerset) and Australia.
