Richard Kingsland met Mmme Suzanne Vigneaux and her dog, in Paris in 1969 when he negotiated with her the sale of a Rupert Bunny painting. The meeting was the start of a long friendship, and Kingsland and Vigneaux corresponded for nearly 20 years. Kingsland later became Secretary of the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs.
