John G. Goll was a dominant figure in the Michigan oil industry. Goll was a contractor for Saginaw Prospecting Company. He drilled the first commercial oil well in Michigan in the Deindorfer Woods in August 1925. He was president of Goll, Graves & Mechling and associated with the most important oil discoveries in the state of Michigan. John Goll married Florence Putnam Rathbone in 1909.
