Henry M. Buckley "Petty Girls" collection, 1934-1941.

This collection consists of calendars and posters of "Petty Girls," also known as "pin-up girls," dating from 1934 through 1941, mostly serving as advertisements for several businesses in Savannah, Georgia. most of these items feature the artwork of Earl S. Moran (1893-1984). The collection contains a lenticular photograph ("wiggle-picture"), 13 mini-calendars from 1937 to 1939, 2 calendars for 1941, 1 calendar for 1940, 1 calendar for 1949, 1 advertisement card from 1934, and 1 poster. Companies that used the images on their advertisements were Ardie Marmelstein, Commercial Refrigeration Service, Crystal Beer Parlor, Dixie Crystals, John D. Carswell Company, John D. Robinson Company, and Tommie's Place. This collection was originally part of a larger group of materials accumulated by Henry M. Buckley, found in his house after his death. It is not known how or why he accumulated the papers.

No biographical information on Henry M. Buckley is available. Alexander Perry Solomon, Sr. (fl. 1869-1932) was a stationer, printer, and wholesale paper dealer in Savannah, Georgia, during the 1880s. He later became president and treasurer of the Tybee Artesian Water, Ice, and Lighting Co. at Lovell's Station on Tybee Island.
