George Colman, the Younger, correspondence, 1815-1829.

The collection consists of 5 letters. Colman writes two letters to My dear [Robert William] Elliston, one arranging for Mr. Palmer's benefit (dated "Saturday Eve.") and the other is a long humorous letter discussing details of theatrical business, performances, and actors, signed Arthur Griffinhoof (dated "Thursday"). In another letter, 25 June 1824, Melina Place, Colman writes to Sir (the stage manager of the Theatre Royal, Haymarket) giving changes in the lines of the play Married or single. In another letter, 6 May 1829, Colman writes to the Manager, Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, giving instructions to omit certain lines in The partisans, or The war of Paris, 1649. The last letter, 11 April 1815, is to Colman from M. Carles, an actor from the unlicensed Royalty Theatre, who asks for a "situation" at the Haymarket. It is written on an integral envelope with postmark and letter seal.

Elliston was an English actor and theatrical manager, as well as lessee of the Surrey Theatre, London, beginning in 1809. He later served as manager of the Drury Lane Theatre.
