George Colman, the Younger, son of George Colman, the Elder (a famous actor-manager), was educated at Westminster and Oxford, became a dramatist and theatre manager, and was associated with Drury Lane and the Haymarket theatres from 1794-1805. In 1824, he became Examiner of Plays. He introduced most of his farces under the name Arthur Griffinhoof.
