Series I includes volumes 1-10 and contains information of church records of indexes, families, baptisms, confirmations, burials, marriages, pastors, rectors, and assistant ministers dated 1889-1996. Series II includes volumes 11-13 and contains information of church logbook entries, deeds, meeting minutes, and church finances dated 1905-1925.

The Church of the Ascension, a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, was originally formed in 1887 by a group of Episcopalians seeking a place of worship close to their homes. In 1889 the group built a small wooden church on a vacant Ellsworth Avenue lot. The space soon proved to be inadequate and in 1897 construction began on the present church structure.
