Pierre-Louis Roederer est le premier fils de l'homme politique Pierre-Louis Roederer (1754-1835). Lieutenant-colonel de cavalerie et aide de camp du roi Joseph à Naples, il participa à la bataille d’Austerlitz et aux campagnes d’Espagne. Fait prisonnier pendant la campagne de Russie, il a laissé des notes très intéressantes sur ses conditions de détentions et sur la campagne de 1812.
