Helen Virginia Bernice Jacobson (Richardson) was born November 26, 1914 in Winthrop, Sibley County (Minn.). She graduated from Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing (St. Paul) in 1937 as a registered nurse. In 1939 she was the third woman to be hired as a stewardess by Northwest Airlines, which required that its stewardesses be registered nurses. In addition to her flight attendant duties, Jacobson co-authored the airline's stewardess training manual, trained new stewardesses, and represented the ...
