The collection documents the lives of two generations of the Grover Hubbell family. The family series includes papers from Grover, his wife Anna, and two of his daughters. Grover's papers include correspondence related to his hobbies of collecting stamps and rare tapestries, financial records, records relating to the renovation of Terrace Hill, and papers related to his estate. Anna's papers include documents related to personal expenses, investments and Terrace Hill expenses. Frances Ingham's papers (1930s to 1990s) include financial, farm and real estate records, architectural drawings, and papers relating to her trust. Mary Bell Windsor's papers are primarily of a financial nature related to personal investments and expenses and various Hubbell family companies. The business series includes corporate and financial record books, ledgers, journals, correspondence, deed, stock certificates and photographs for the following companies: Raccoon River Sand Company; Des Moines Elevator Company; Coon Valley Gravel Company; Des Moines Wood Products Company; Crown Concrete Company; Penrod, Jurden & Clark Company; Western Investment Company; Angus Coal Company; Midwest Coal Corporation; Valley Limestone & Gravel Company; Des Moines Equipment Company; Castle Hot Springs Hotel, Inc.; Barwing, Inc.; Des Moines Sawmill Company and Guild Hall, Inc.

Prominent Des Moines businessman and philanthropist. Grover C. Hubbell was the youngest child of Frederick Marion and Frances Cooper Hubbell. In 1905 he married Anna Ramsey Godfrey. The couple had 3 daughters. He served as a trustee for the F.M. Hubbell Estate from 1903 until 1956.
