General description of the collection: The Murray Span papers include 322 letters, mostly from Murray Span to his parents and brother, David. There are some letters to Span from friends. Span's letters are from training camps (including Camp Upton, New York; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina), France, and Germany. He also participated in the Tennessee maneuvers. The collection includes two photographs of Span, various postcards, and holiday cards.

Murray Span was a United States (U.S.) soldier in WWII. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Span of the Bronx, New York. He served as a private and corporal in Cannon Company and Headquarters (HQ) Company, 399th Infantry Regiment. He was also company clerk in both units. Span was Jewish.
