Autobiographies and Reminiscences of California Pioneers, p. 99-100, Vol. 4. This is a typed transcript of the member's autobiographical reminiscence created as an institutional record for the Society of California Pioneers. This very brief reminiscence (consisting of two paragraphs) does not provide much biographical or historical information. It's written in a self-effacing tone as Mr. Carpentier claims that his life "had nothing in it of special interest."

Horace W. Carpentier was born in 1824. He was one of the first Mayors of Oakland, a California Assemblyman of 1853, and once owned great land holdings in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
