Record group 71-3 consists of the minutes of the Michigan Dept. of Licensing and Regulation, Board of Dentistry for the years 1883-1948. Mainly handwritten and typed minutes of board meetings, Sept. 10, 1883-Sept. 27, 1948, relating to applications for license, examination, organization of the board, officers, policy, agreements of reciprocity with other states, standards for curriculum and practices. Includes forms, legal opinions, notices, resolutions, accounts, circulars, lists of applicants and annual reports. Also includes register of licenses (Sept. 25, 1883-July 1, 1907), and "temporary" licentiates (1892-1904), offering date, name, post office address, amount of fee received, school where degree was earned, and date of graduation under "remarks."

Act 122, PA 1939 provided for, among other things, the regulation of the practice of dentistry, dental surgery and dental hygiene by the Michigan Board of Dentistry. The Board is responsible for the examination, licensing, registration and determination of penalties for violations of the act.
