Elsie Singmaster Lewars letters, 1937-1946.

The collection consists of four letters: to Miss Anderson, 25 April 1937, enclosing a picture and autograph, and answering questions about her work; a series of three letters to Karl Goedecke, of Laurel Book Service, 1945-1946, concerning two sets of books she purchased from another bookseller and would like to exchange for two different sets; ultimately, the original bookseller agrees to exchange the unwanted sets for the others.

Karl E. Goedecke (1902-1979) was a book dealer based in Hazleton (eastern), Pennsylvania. He and his wife Katherine Lubrecht Goedecke (1902-1975) owned and operated the Laurel Book Service from 1932 to 1975 (name first used circa 1935). Author Elsie Singmaster was born and educated in Pennsylvania, and lived in the Commonwealth nearly all her life.
