Singmaster, Elsie, 1879-1958
Variant namesAuthor Elsie Singmaster was born and educated in Pennsylvania, and lived in the Commonwealth nearly all her life. Her initial success as a writer came with stories for children, but she soon graduated to adult novels and stories. Many of her works are set in Pennsylvania Dutch country, where she grew up, and her accurate and charming portrayal of the people and places remembered from her youth were key to her success and popularity. She also wrote historical fiction set in Pennsylvania, and biography.
