[Lincoln's little girl : correspondence], 1925-1928.

Collection of 14 typed and manuscript letters addressed to Grade Bedell Billings in Delphos, Kansas. These letters are from family members and assorted correspondents, most of whom refer to her relationship with Lincoln, facets of Lincoln's life, and articles on these subjects. One letter is from a New York City antiquarian bookseller who seeks a transcript of the much quoted letter and another is a short note from William E. Barton, a Lincoln biographer of the 1920s. The article is by Barton (from the Dearborn Independent, Dec. 11, 1926). All the letters have addressed and stamped envelopes.

At the age of eleven, Grace Bedell Billings (1848-1936) of Westfield, New York, wrote to Abraham Lincoln shortly before he was elected President of the United States suggesting that he wear a beard to improve his appearance.
