Includes letters of Nineveh discussing news of Clark County, politics, crops and the family. One discusses 1822 murder of "Sharp" by "Blaze" and the particulars of the case. Diary, 1832, kept during Black Hawk War. Three commissions. William's letters discuss his work and life on the plantation, the cotton crops, the slaves in his charge, slavery and news of a slave insurrection in Mississippi. His last letter discusses his illness and his plans for his estate. Account books, 1822-1831. Diaries, 1855-1858, kept by Nineveh's son William discuss farm life, family, neighbors and friends in Clark County, social activities, his 1856 trading trip down the river to New Orleans, journeys around Illinois including to the 1858 Republican State Convention in Springfield. Letters from Lucy Young to William including one from Texas describing her teaching chores, the class and Texas. Miscellaneous family letters, deeds, receipts, copies of bills, biographical information and published material.

Irish family that were early settlers of Clark County, Ill. Nineveh served as County Commissioner for two terms and in the Black Hawk War. His brother William moved to the south and worked as an overseer on a plantation in Louisiana until he died in 1832 and left his estate to Nineveh's children.
