Thomas Canfield (ca. 1717-1791), was a farmer and, in the family tradition, a tanner. He married Elizabeth Baldwin, with whom he had nine children: Loes, Joseph (ca. 1750-1829), Nathaniel (1752-1808), Abigail, David, Elizabeth, Phebe, Hannah, and Sarah. Nathaniel Canfield was a private in the state militia during the Revolution. James Canfield (1786-1841), the son of David Canfield resided in Newark, New Jersey and married Elizabeth Bigelow, with whom he had eight children. From the ...
