Hymen B. Mintz Collection, 1802-1911.

This collection, 1802-1911, consists of miscellaneous legal documents including depositions, subpoenas, promissory notes, bills for court costs, deeds, attorneys' notes, incorporation acts, and other material pertinent to legal cases tried in the Essex and Bergen Inferior Courts of Common Pleas. The majority of the material relates to civil and criminal cases tried between 1805-1840. A few papers were depositions taken from witnesses who testified in murder, slander, trespass and assault and battery cases. Contains the letters and case-related material of many prominent New Jersey lawyers, including: E. Van Arsdale, Jr., Samuel Cassedy, Alonzo Church, Amzi Dodd, Edward Halsey, Joseph Hornblower, David B. Ogden, George T. Parrot, J. Herbert Potts, and Smith Scudder.

David B. Ogden was born on October 31, 1775 in Morrisania, New York. He was admitted to the bar as an attorney in 1796 and as a counselor in 1799.
