William Lofland Dudley was a chemistry professor at Vanderbilt University and became Dean of the Medical Dept. (now the School of Medicine) in 1895. While at Vanderbilt, he also established the Vanderbilt Athletic Association and organized the Southern Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association, precursor of the Southeastern Conference.
