The bulk of the collection consists of addresses, writings, case briefs, ledgers, tax receipts, and notebooks from Evans's professional activities and academic coursework. Other materials in the collection include: blue prints of house and barn plans; various certificates and diplomas; miscellaneous letters; treasurer's records from the Early Settler's Association, Black Hawk County; 2 teaching certificates awarded to Lela Phelps; an automobiles and repairing account book belonging to F.F. Wiltfang of Dike, Iowa; miscellaneous materials related to Black Hawk, Butler and Grundy counties and a Parkersburg sewer project; correspondence and blue prints related to rights of way through Evans's property for road construction and an Illinois Central Railroad project; an account book from the Craner Creamery in Parkersburg; a record book from the Mason City chapter of the Modern Brotherhood of America; memorabilia from his days at the State University of Iowa, including a copy of the by-laws and constitution of the Irving Institute, a literary club at the University and photographs of the football, baseball and track teams.

Evans attend East Waterloo High School and the State University of Iowa, from which he received the degrees of Bachelor of Philosophy (1896) and Bachelor of Laws (1897). He practiced law in Parkersburg, Iowa from 1897 to 1928, when he took up practice in Waterloo. In 1905-1906 he served as county attorney for Butler County, Iowa. On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law.
