Papers document her teaching career, her concern with social issues in Virginia and nationwide, particularly the desegregation of public schools in Virginia; and the foundation of the planned community, Reston, Va. The bulk of the collection consists of personal correspondence, course material, papers regarding the development of Reston, the Society for Values in Higher Education, the Unitarian Universalist Church, and Cuba. A significant portion of the papers describe her family life and her travels to China, Greece, Italy and Cuba. Two unpublished memoirs were written in honor of a deceased daughter and grandson. Personal diaries record her life and ideas. Her master's thesis on Thomas Jefferson is also present. Robert E. Simon is a correspondent.
